On a different note, we were enthralled with the butterfly park in Penang. The park has one of the worlds largest collection of butterflies, all allowed free reign inside a huge greenhouse. butterfly - 4 Kb

We visited several temples and since it was a major Buddhist festival (Vesak Day -- when the Buddha became enlightened), there was a lot of activity. Here candles are lit probably as prayers to the Buddha. 18 Kb - Temple

The gaudily ornamented temple exterior. Lots of gold and heavy incense. People must remove their shoes before entering the temple. We had been warned that thieves took advantage and steal nice footwear. No worries. Nathanael's, at least, were too big for most Asian feet. 17 Kb - Temple Yard

Fortunately, after the temple tours, one of the locals was kind enough to show us around the island, initiate us to the food markets, and take us to see the counterfeit watches and clothing for sale at the night market.
