Lantern Festival

During the fall of 1998, we met with our church group to light lanterns at Bishan Park, only five minutes from home.

One part of the lantern festival is enjoying mooncake and tea. The mooncake was used in China to pass secret message during a popular uprising.

Bishan park seems to be filled with revelers and their paper lanterns. The modern lanterns have electric lighting and will play tunes.

The lantern festival goes on nightly for one week at the Chinese Garden park in Western Singapore. Special performances by Chinese dance groups can also be seen.

A large beautifully constructed lantern dragon along with lotus blossoms on the Chinese Garden lake. Also to be found on the lake is a lantern battalion of General Ho's battleships.

The Chinese Gardens also have traditional buildings and bonsai gardens, among other things. More easily seen during the day.
